The markets broke the 10/10 lows, and CNBC went to DEFCON 1.Here are some random statistics:> the Dow is down 46.7% from the all time closing high in October 2007> the Nasdaq is down 54% from the all time closing high in October 2007> the Dow is down 43.1% this year (2008)> the S&P closed at its lowest level in over 11 years (since April 1997)Also of note - because of the carnage over the past few months, 175 of the 500 companies in the S&P 500 don’t meet the minimum market cap requirement of $4 billion….

The 5 DMA is still declining.The Qs, SPY, IWM remain below support from earlier in the week.We need price (not a news reporter, government worker or anything else)to tell us when the market has made a turn and the market has not sent us that message yet. 2750 will be important this afternoon if the market makes another attempt to rally….

Good Action

If the market can push past 2750 and hold above that level we could be in for a strong rally this afternoon, perhaps up to the declining 5DMA near 2840 or higher? The first priority is always to manage risk. As I mentioned on twitter, I purchased the Nov 27 Q calls @.57 It is still early and there is no need to chase prices just below prior support….

SKF Fun

So I’m thinking maybe it’s time to buy some puts in these Inverse Double Latte’s, Then I look at the SKF board and ….whoa. Hair raising. The Dec. 240 straddle, roughly ATM not, is about $109. Yes, that’s $109 for a straddle with 29 days to go. 4 of them being a long weekend next weekend, although hard to make a case the Thanksgiving break will mean anything this year….
