We will be shopping for T’s first bike this weekend. He probably should have gotten one awhile ago but he has busy, neglectful parents (don’t tell his mother I said that). While we will probably end up getting the Jet 16 (it must be a Trek, I buy quality American goods when I can — oops, it’s made in China), I am in love with the model called D…

I sincerely hope you weren’t majorly short the Financial sector the last few days - if so, I hope your stops took you out before carnal and potentially devastating damage was done to your account. Let’s look at what went wrong (and right) so quickly.
Let’s assume you heard the news of how Financial stocks were collapsing, Indy Mac was taken over, the US Banking system was on the verge of collapse or any other manner of bearish news. Let’s assume you’d heard that you can ’short’ the financial sector (make money while they go down) in an ‘inverse’ fund (meaning, you ‘buy’ the fund to get short). Let’s assume that you were told you can make a lot more money with an inverse leverage fund, such as the SKF. Let’s assume you got short early this week. May we also assume you didn’t know much about ETF funds and this was one of your first experiences with them?

No videos tonight because nothing has really changed in my outlook. The negative divergences (distribution/sellers) I pointed out Wednesday afternoon have continued to develop. Although all in all it was another beautiful day for the bulls, especially on the DOW side. The next stop on the tour in my opinion will be a consolidation pullback, those pesky sellers I told you about already. In fact I bought some QID July $44 calls in the afternoon and they’ve already doubled….

Yesterday, the market posted its first decent rally in many weeks. Wells Fargo, Northern Trust and Charles Schwab posted good numbers and that helped to rally an oversold financial sector. Oil also retreated and that helped to take the sting out of a very high CPI number. Comments from Ben Bernanke reassured the market that financial stability, not inflation, was the Fed’s priority. The market was able to hold its gains and a rally into the bell. As I mentioned yesterday, serious technical damage has occurred and the market needs to follow through by closing above SPY 126 for me to …

Robert states, “My question regards the assignment of options. I’m not exactly sure how the dynamics work and how to determine if I’m in danger of being assigned. Suppose I sell a call, when does the person on the other side get to buy the call you put up for sale?

Brian, When I received your new book, TA Using Multiple Timeframes, I read through it quickly. Now, the second time through, I’m taking notes. I’ll probably read it again and highlight areas as I read it. Recognizing the four stages of a stocks “lifecycle” and what sta…

Anybody remember the VIX? Getting slammed like a Naked Short. Another point or so down gets it 10% below it’s 10 Day SMA. How about Expiration, haven’t mentioned that much. You don’t want to play for pins in a volatile and high volume tape, so I’d be a bit careful to say the least….

The markets are holding onto yesterdays gains and doing battle with the downtrend lines from the last 2 weeks. It is encouraging to see the 5 day MAs have flattened out and that there are 2 advancers for each decliner today. The primay trend remains lower but the short term timeframes continue to heal. 44.50 looks important for the Qs to hold above and 123.50 is an important level for SPY….

Gotta love that kind of move. Well for any of you following along in the AMR trade from earlier this week, between yesterday and today, I’m sold out completely of the July $5 calls. I still LOVE the stock and I think it goes much higher. It’s looking like a small pullback is in the cards and I’d love to pick up some real stock down around $5.50 for a run toward $14. Good luck….

Basically anyone with under $100,000 in cash in a bank is protected by the FDIC and considering the FDIC has never stiffed anyone–at least not yet, IndyMac alone took out 5-10% of its reserves–most people feel pretty safe. As you can see in the video below of IndyMac customers trying to get their $ out, there’s some definite anger just below the surface, but for now, this is what it’s like when a bank fails: … [v…
