The Corporate Reputation Factor

In his white paper, “Communication as Value Builder,” Dr. David Jensen, Senior Vice President with Ketchum in Atlanta, cites a 1998 study by the Wirthlin Group, which concludes that:

Are you simplifying things for your customers?

Everything about our lives is complicated, noisy and overcrowded.  Which is why we are so drawn to simplicity in design and process.  A large part of the iPhone’s success is because of it’s simple elegance.

Puma Shoes Pay Tribute to Endangered Animals

For the second year running, Puma has collaborated with National Geographic photographer Mitsuaki Iwago to design three pairs of great looking kicks to celebrate three of the world’s endangered animals. The shoes are made with colors, fabrics, and styles that capture the personality of the animals, and photos of the Golden Monkey, Giant Panda, and Crested Ibis - taken by Iwago himself - grace the soles of each pair of shoes.

Designing The Digital Experience: A Foreword

David Lee King asked me to write a foreword to his upcoming book titled "Designing The Digital Experience". I got to see an early draft of the book and it looks promising.  Most of the focus of David’s book is on designing digital experiences, but in the foreword—I take a step back and examine the relationship between "experience" (physical or digital) and the social phenomenon.   Here’s a sample of from what I wrote.  You’ll have to wait for the book to read all of it.

Google’s Knol - A Wikipedia Killer or a Blog Killer?

So today Google finally opened up and launched Launched Knol (it’s been coming for a while) a place where people can publish ‘authoritative articles about specific topics’. It’s like Wikipedia in that articles can be edited by others - but changes need to be approved by the authors of the articles. Articles can be monetized in a revenue share arrangement where Google and the authors share income derived from articles.

The Secret to Captivating Content? More Cowbell!

More Cowbell
In April of 2000, Saturday Night Live aired one of the few truly classic sketches outside of the 1970s and 80s. The sketch is a spoof of a VH1 “Behind the Music” episode featuring Blue Öyster Cult and the recording of (Don’t Fear) The Reaper (w…

Optimizing for Multiple Word Order Search Phrases

Posted by randfishSEOmoz member, Michael Janik wrote to me last week and asked about how to optimize for multiple word order search phrases. I think it’s an excellent topic, and one that we haven’t covered well in the past.
The issue arises from keyword phrases that receive search queries in different formats, for example:

Restaurant Reviews Seattle

Little bits

Aaron decided that the best way to tell his story was to turn his web site into exactly one (non-scrolling) page. I think that boundaries sharpen the mind. And if you have a one page web site, why not try turning it into ten pages to see what happens.Draw anything for $2? I think it’s a brilliant way to turn the pricing model of art on its head, to gain a following and to practice your drawing. On a similar tangent, Elizabeth points us to an a…

The Formula for Successful Viral Campaigns. Not!

By B.L. Ochman

This successful viral ad is a classic. People loved the drum playing Cadbury Gorilla because it was unlike anything they’d ever seen. It was creative, fun, more than a little weird, and not a heavy-handed sales message. It’s been spoofed, m…

SearchCap: The Day In Search, July 23, 2008

Below is what happened in search today, as reported on
Search Engine Land and from other
places across the web.
From Search Engine Land:

Google’s Knol Launches: Like Wikipedia, With Moderation After six months of testing, Google has formally rolled out Knol, a service designed to let people create pages of knowledge on any topic they choose. While Google says Knol is not designed to compete with Wikipedia — and there are good arguments to back this up — I…

Linky Goodness, July 23

Wednesday comes this time each week. Today I wish it didn’t.

It’s been a while, so it’s probably time for this rumor to be resurrected: Google is rumored to be buying Digg for $200M. As always, we’ll believe it when we see it.

Google Knol Launches

You know how déjà vu is? I’m feeling that today, since it’s been seven months since Google Knol was announced, and they’re just now getting around to going live. And what we said at the first announcement still looks to be true: “Google Runs Out of Content to Monetize; Wants You to Build More.”
