I had dinner with some friends the other night and I arrived first. After about 15 minutes of alone time, the waitress finally came over proceeded to tell me that they had over-filled her section and she was swamped. I assume that she told me this to explain why she had not stopped by until now.

The official Microsoft adCenter blog announced the beta testing of a desktop utility for their paid search platform.
For paid search managers, this software will function much like Google’s Adwords desktop application.
Basically you will be able to manage your adCenter campaigns from the convenience of your desktop without the use of a browser. The positives of software like this are numerous. The most obvious is that it allows you to make wholesale edits and revisions without worrying about the real time implications on your account. Such software also makes the initial process of paid search account setup much easier.

A branding program is all about differentiating your product or company from the others in your category. And, if you don’t have a point of difference, you’d better have a very low price. An example was BMW, which many, many years ago established the powerful position of being the "Ultimate Driving Machine." It has driven that differentiating idea to become one of the world’s most successful premium automobiles.

When I first moved from Virginia Beach to Denver, it was just me and my two kids. It was pretty terrifying… a new job, a new city, my marriage ended, and my savings gone. To save money, I took the light rail to work each day. After a few weeks, I got to having some small talk with a guy on the light rail named Mike.
Mike was a towering man. I’m a pretty big guy, so maybe that’s why we hit it off. After getting to know Mike, I found he worked as a Marshal that protected the federal justices downtown. With 9/11, Mike had a serious job and he loved the responsibility. His protective spirit didn’t end at the court steps, either. I often found Mike finding a seat on the light rail between a drunk and the rest of the passengers. In the middle of our conversations, I would see that I lost his attention while he watched over other people. They didn’t even know he was there protecting them.

The military has always served as an incubator of groundbreaking technology and wild inventions (hello, the Internet). At the same time, private enterprise is uniquely equipped to hone expertise in very narrow fields. Nike, for example, continues to one-up itself with new and improved fabric development and shoe design - something the military probably doesn’t have the time or resources to accomplish.

Where do all the do-gooders go to spread their message and gather support? Before, they could do it alone, or try to navigate through the murky waters of Myspace or Facebook to reach others that share their vision of positive change. Now there’s a social network - Changents.com, specifically for people and organizations that are out there making a difference in the world. Social and environmental issues are the main focus, and Changents helps connect change agents and backers.

There are a lot of personalities and opinions when it comes to interior decorating – as in marketing, everyone thinks they are an expert. When it comes to someone’s home however, the opinion is expressed more in binary terms of likes and dislikes from the position of “I’ll know it when I see it.” This puts the designer in a tough spot. They have to have the skills of an eye doctor switching lenses trying to find the right focus and the diagnosis skills of a vet. —Eclectic? Colonial? Modern? Brand-spanking-new-but-designed-to-look-old-but-not-like-Gatsby? (Note to self: client got sick at sight of shag carpet. Must go in other direction.)…

We can’t wait until our event on Thursday but as we finalize the details, I’m left wondering why we can’t get any journalists from the traditional advertising, design or marketing journals to come and attend.
No Ad Age, No Ad Week, No Brand Week, No Creative Review, No Campaign. Also no ad-journos from the press, like Stuart Elliot of the New York Times.
Any thoughts, readers?
