Posted by Tom_CThere’s been a fair amount of buzz recently about online reputation management and how to do it recently but one thing I don’t think anyone has really discussed is how a negative reputation can manifest itself online. After all, not all negative reputations are created equal. Sometimes it’s a page that looks innocuous but contains mildly negative negative things once you click through or sometimes it’s a p…

Two cool things about the Samsung Instinct campaign site that encourages people to drop an image of the phone into their home videos: the refreshing honesty and this direct YouTube uploader that connects the users directly to their already uploaded videos….

This must have been a tough one for the search giant to figure out.
People read numbers better than they do colors.
Google has started to add Approximate word counts on their Adwords keyword tool, along side of their vague colored bar graphs, which used to be the only data they gave.

My buddy David Szetela writes a new column for SearchEngineWatch called “Profitable PPC.” In his first column, “PPC Advertising: Art or Science?,” he mentions a book called Scientific Advertising by Claude C. Hopkins. The book was first published in 1923–long before TV or online advertising. Hopkins is the inventor of test marketing, coupon sampling, and copy research.

Consider, for a moment, how many people you have ever had sexual intercourse with. Now compare that figure with the number of people you have been in love with.
Really in love. So in love that you could not live without them or consider being with anyone else. Chances are that the first number is a lot bigger than the second. Most people in their lifetime will make love to many different partners, but it is highly unlikely that they will fall in love more than once or twice.

In a way it’s very un-Google. The new Lively 3D “virtual world” that launched today, is another run at social networking after the mixed experience of Orkut (popular in Brazil and India, among a few other places). Apparently aimed at teens and even tweens, cutting their virtual teeth on sites like Webkinz and Club Penguin, Lively is apparently the product of the long-rumored G…

Are there so many ads at the airport that Ad Traffic Controllers need to be used? The New York Times seem to think so.
ON a recent US Airways flight from New York to Jamaica, coach passengers nursing their drinks were greeted with ads on their tray tables promoting General Motors’ OnStar navigation system.

Chris from One-to-One Interactive writes in with a new report that compares corporate professionally-done (and often committee-approved) builds in Second Life with player-made stuff. Even if you think Second Life is sooo 2007 but are interested in interaction design in general, take a look. Among other findings, there’s this gem about how the biggest sim is not always the most popular, and for the reasons that are familiar to architects and urban planners but not necessarily to software designers [emphasis mine]:…

Wooster Collective points us to a video interview showcasing brilliant street artist Joshua Allen Harris. He creates these amazing animated inflatable sculptures that come to life as air flows from passing subway cars drift up through grates in the sidewalk. Sea monsters, giraffes and bears all made out of plastic bags pop up and and then collapse back into what looks like a limp pile of trash.
