shopping-mothers-day.jpg

I read somewhere that Mother’s Day is more important to mothers than any other holiday. And while we may suspect that’s true, moms are constantly trying to downplay it — which is a dirty trick you should never fall for….

On the subject of innovation

I was absolutely fascinated by this article in the NY Times. It reveals how the brain works and how habit patterns are literally carved into our brains in the form of neural pathways. It went on to describe the fact that we can significantly strengthen our mental capacity by consistently trying the same things in new ways and taking on altogether new challenges, which helps blaze new (parallel) pathways in the brain.

China’s Big Brand

According to that notable macro-economist Frank Zappa, you aren’t a real country unless you have a beer and an airline. It also helps if you have a decent football team and some nuclear weapons, he added, but at the very least you needed a beer.

Avoid getting taken Hostage by your Developers

This weekend I started up a conversation with a local artist who has been assisting her boss with the management of a couple of web applications her boss owns.
The conversation took a turn and some venting went on about paying weekly development fees without seeing any progress with the developer they’ve been working with. Now the developer wants to charge them another lump sum fee to complete the project as well as a weekly maintenance fee to cover other requests. It gets worse.

How are the inexperienced supposed to get their first job at an internet technology company? The following is how I did it.
