According to the U.S. Federal Trade Commission Bait advertising is an alluring but insincere offer to sell a product or service which the advertiser in truth does not intend or want to sell. Its purpose is to switch consumers from buying the advertised merchandise, in order to sell something else, usually at a higher price or on a basis more advantageous to the advertiser. The primary aim of a bait advertisement is to obtain leads as to persons interested in buying merchandise of the type so advertised.

Residents of Los Angeles have come together to save their beloved taco trucks. Under a new ordinance, trucks would have to follow overly strict rules about where and when they can set up shop. Non compliance would mean fines, misdemeanor charges and possible jail time. There are similar laws in place now that are rarely enforced. The NY Times explains:

Walked around Chicago and got to know some of my fellow SOB Con ‘08 bloggers this afternoon. Great conversations with new friends & renewing friendships:
It’s been very motivational and inspirational. Makes me want to write (more!) to listen (more!) and learn (even more!!)
And the conference doesn’t even start for 2 more hours… this was just informal lunch and walking the city conversations. And the weather was NICE this afternoon — I’ll post photos when I have more time to download them from the camera!

Raise your hand if you’re tired of hearing about the pending Google-Yahoo and/or Yahoo-Microsoft deals. All right, everyone who isn’t me—you’re excused from reading this post. Me—you still have to write it, even though now there’s no one left out there.
Somehow, it’s suddenly news again that Yahoo might do SOMETHING at SOME POINT. (Can you tell I’m not overly impressed?) Sources tell the W…

The Wall Street Journal is now reporting that Microsoft and Yahoo are holding talks to try and avoid the promised proxy battle/hostile takeover effort that is certain to be wearying for both sides. According to the paper: “Talks between Microsoft Corp. and Yahoo Inc. intensified Friday as the two sides explored the possibility of a last-ditch friendly deal, according to people familiar with the matter.”

Almost a year ago I started experimenting with a new technique (new for me at least) of creating ‘Best Seller Lists’ as a technique to drive more sales at Amazon’s Affiliate Program.
The concept was simple:
Analyze the things that customers have bought previously from your affiliate links to Amazon (they give you this information in their reporting area)

When I was first hired at Patronpath, I was horrified (yes, that’s accurate) at the website that was up. It was pure flash, no pages, no back-end optimization (although SWFObject was loaded), no means of updating the content… and most of all, no traffic.
It was a site that cost plenty, with no return on investment. When I approached the agency who developed the site, there were no apologies. In fact, when I complained about the SEO, they offered another pricey contract to optimize the site. That was the final straw! No agency with any conscience would build a site that no one can find.

Those who use the subway system in São Paulo, Brazil, will have a new service from July onwards: bicycles will be available at the main stations of the city center.
The passengers will be able to use the bikes free of charge for 30 minutes and will pay a small fee should they keep it for longer. To have access to the bicycles, passengers will have to sign up to receive an integration card with the subway system. The goal is to encourage the use of bicycles, instead of trains, for short distances, therefore reducing the number of people on the trains.
