In all my spare time (ha!), I’ve been working to wrap the Wild Birds Unlimited Map application with an enterprise application that will allow folks to design their own store locator. Developing my own Software as a Service solution has been a goal of mine for quite a few years, and this is a great opportunity.
There are two key features off the shelf that I wanted to put into the application that are turning out to be a huge challenge so I wanted to discuss them in the event you’re ever looking to do the same. Both features are commonplace throughout applications, but I’ve come to find out that even though they’re commonplace, many hosting providers don’t actually support them!

There you are. You just finished reading Rich and Jeff Sloan’s book and you are fired up! You have an idea that you are certain will make make the invention of those small yellow sticky notes look like small potatoes.
Not only that, but you are so proud of yourself, because you have done exhaustive market research, completed a fabulous and no-fail business plan and are already taking orders from your home office.
WAIT! Step away from that business loan application and listen.

Social entrepreneurism is a business model that is marketed squarely under the “green” banner. The more I dive into this topic, the more I find messaging and philosophies taking me back to the environment. Not that there is anything wrong with that emphasis. However, the concentric circles of social entrepreneurism are: People, Profit, Planet seem to be lopsided, with emphasis on “planet,” making “profit” a dirty word. In this post I’d like to review and example and a method for measuring profit to benefit “planet.”

I’m generally happy with how “Fred 44″ is coming along. It feels like it’s about 75% done, though one never knows. Like an artist friend once told me, “A painting is never finished; it is ended.”
Right now I seem to be drawing a lot. Kinda feeling guilty because there’s a lot of other stuff going on, all to do with S…

What does someone searching Google for your name or blog name find?
Earlier in the year I met a blogger at a conference who I had a pretty good conversation with. He had pitched me an idea for something that we might one day work on together. However when I got home, while I could remember his name I couldn’t remember his blog’s URL.
So I did what everyone would do and ‘Googled Him’ (by the way - I can’t believe that ‘Googled’ doesn’t come up in my spell check).

George Clooney is a movie star. He looks like one. He makes tens of millions of dollars a year, hangs out at Cannes and has starlets falling at his feet.
Danny Devito is exactly five feet tall. He was perfectly cast as the Penguin.
Can you imagine the career advice Danny got? The well-meaning people who explained to him (as if he didn’t know) that he didn’t really look like George Clooney? That perhaps, maybe, he should consider a job as a personal trainer or short order cook…

by : Alex EperjessyToday on Business&Games, Penny Arcade Adventures: On The Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness. It’s an adventure game, it has a title long enough to raise one of your eyebrows and it might just spearhead a new generation of episodic games created and published outside the sphere of big name companies. Let’s see what perspectives this could open for both developers and advertisers. But first, a quick brief to acquaint you with the game’s creators, before we move to talk about the game.

by: Yann Gourvennec Preliminary questionsFirst and foremost, define the purpose of your corporate blog even before you start writing the first line. What is the objective of this blog? Is it about awareness? Is it intended for you to share knowledge with the community? Is it there to show that your corporation and its experts are particularly good at something?

Dave Goetz from Brand & Strategy interviewed me in May of 2006 on the state of branding. This is the conversation that transpired…
What, if anything, has changed over the past thirty years in marketing strategy? Essentially, the only thing that has changed is the level of competition. Competition today is intense. It’s what I call the “tyranny of choice.” There is now so much choice that if you make a mistake, your competitors quickly get your business, and you don’t get it back. It’s the General Motors problem. They made a lot of mistakes and market share continues to drop.
