You’ve Got…Personality!

Personality Not IncludedMy fellow blogger (and Ogilvy exec) Rohit Bhargava just published a book called Personality Not Included: Why Companies Lose Their Authenticity And How Great Brands Get it Back. He’s doing a big blog tour launch thingee today, and I agreed to participate with the caveat that we focus the interview on how his message relates to youth marketing specifically. In addition, we’re also giving away books — this is the second giveaway we’re doing TODAY. If you haven’t check out A…

"What Do You Think of This?" Messages Effect Real Estate Decisions

Michael Wurzer raises some interesting points in a post on how real estate shoppers discuss home listings today.

He explains that real estate is a different animal than the latest consumer gadget, which makes commenting on individual properties more difficult since fewer people have hands-on experience with a property than the latest iPod.

However, it seems clear that Wurzer knows conversations are happening today. Just not on real estate websites:

Alka seltzer - Piranhas and crocodiles - print Thailand

Another print ad execution for Alka Seltzer from JWT Bangkok, Thailand. Confusing since BBDO Bangkok just did this awesome high-speed stroboscopic photography style campaign which easily falls under the category “teh ossom”. So who in Bangkok has the alka-seltzer account, I wonder? Everybody?

Getting Game

Game.jpgWalter Dean Myers’ latest book, Game is a tender sports story about the fragile line between winning and losing. Not only are there negative influences on the street, Drew’s own self-doubt often challenges him. He is a talented, superstar basketball player but must first learn to play for the team before he can truly have “game.”

Viral Marketing is Stupid

Posted by Danny DoverYesterday, I was arguing with my friend about the existence of one sight or sound that is universally funny. He argued that since different cultures find humor in different things, there couldn’t possibly be one example of something that is funny to everyone. Unconvinced, I started searching for the holy grail of funny. Immediately, I went on YouTube and starting browsing my favorite videos. Eventually, I came to the monkey video below.  No matter how many times I watch the video, I still find it funny. There is something instinctively funny about seeing how dumb a monkey is compared t…

Metrics vs Attention, Relevance and Reputation

by: Stefan Kolle       One of the vexing matters in innovative marketing is the lack of reliable metrics.  David Polinchock’s post on the Measurement Excuse is one fine example of the discussions going on. I’d like to add my opinion to the discussion, as the whole issue of metrics in the modern media space has been keeping me thinking (and more often than not, ranting) a lot recently. And I came up with something I want to share with you.

Why I Blog?

Darren Rowse, you know, the Problogger, put up a video challenge for everyone to say “why you blog?” So I did. The video below is my response.

So why do I blog? Well, I started blogging in August 2001 because a friend (Josh) showed me what it was, and I realized that I could publish my thoughts to the world without an editor/gatekeeper. It was an outlet for me, and being a creative person, it just felt darn good. Over time I’ve moved from blogging about personal stuff to business stuff, now back to video blogging for both reasons. In the end, I blog because I love it. Why do you blog?

20 Types of Pages that Every Blogger Should Consider

When you use WordPress you’re given the choice when publishing between doing it as a ‘post’ or as a ‘page‘. Posts go up on your blog while ‘pages’ are static pages that you can publish without it having to go up on your blog.
There’s a lot of reasons why you might choose a post over a page or a page over a post (that’s for another post) - but today I thought I’d highlight a few ‘pages’ that I have here on ProBlogger as examples of pages that bloggers might want to develop to promote their blog to different groups of people. Some are more essential in my mind than others but all have been helpful in the development of my own blogs.
