I notice that more and more guerrilla marketing campaigns in non English speaking countries are in the English language. Why is that? Are they just trying to appeal to the English language marketing blogs? Like in the case of the Duesseldorf Magics campaign below, I understand that many people in Germany speak English and can possibly get the context, but isn’t it the case that more people in Duesseldorf or the rest of Germany speak mostly German?…

The folks at Dairi Burger ask “Where are all the poor, ugly, awkward girls?” and Dollymix nodded in agreement.
“Anyone see a pattern? What happened to the underdogs? The awkward girls? The Margarets and the Kathleens? Why the sudden fascination with rich, vapid, and materialistic? Where success is defined as cutting other girls down and bullying? And snagging the rich popular guy?” …

After being part of a team launching a company this week and four new website design projects, plus my “regular” work of helping clients achieve superior online and offline marketing results, I need a short vacation getaway for some family time. So, the blog will take a brief time out.I’ll be back to writing about social networking, interactive PR, SEO and SEM, and the usual stuff as soon as I make sure my clients are well taken care of for the moment….

And on it goes. We already saw Virgin Mobile in Canada capitalize on the Spitzer scandel. Now Adage.com is reproting that Georgi vodka is in talks to put the bottom of former New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer’s call girl, Ashley Dupre, on the backside of every bus in New York.

I’m haunted by this video from BBC News, and the fact that I haven’t seen this report in U.S. news media. The Morning Journal sums it up: “Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama are jumping all over President Bush’s handling of the economy but not offering any concrete solutions of their own; don’t hold your breath waiting. Republican John McCain has given an general thumbs-up to the Bush Administration’s actions to deal with the crisis.”…

Dear Adland adgrunts*, who here loves vinyl as much as I do? Raise of hands! Kay! This means you love music too - and quite possibly that you’ll love this beautifully illustrated campaign from Young & Rubicam in France for French Radio FM. You can practically smell the vinyl. Much like with the music that each poster shows, I can’t pick a favorite! All sorts of music styles are shown, and the Godfather of Funk James Brown gets his own execution.

If you want to make money online as a publisher, then one of the best ways to do it is to build a “ask the expert” site. In today’s Daily Flip (video below) I talk about why ask the expert sites work, and how they make money. I also give examples of expert sites you can visit to learn how it’s done.
In the video below I reference a presentation (Good to Great, Blogging & Profit Potential) I did that talks about how to make money online. You can download that presentation by c…

In a recent post I raised the issue of people and brands licensing their names. My general conclusion was that for the most part, it’s a waste of money and could be a problem for the brand itself.
It might be worth some words on the use of celebrities in the brand business: the good, the bad and the ugly.
What prompts my further thoughts on this subject is Macy’s major celebrity effort to try and restore some luster to its recent and somewhat unsuccessful effort to build a national chain of 825 stores under the Macy’s brand. Their television ads feature such celebrities as Martha Stewart, Sean “Diddy” Combs, Jessica Simpson, Donald Trump and Emeril Lagasse. All have something in common: They sell name-branded items at Macy’s.

A funny thing happened on the way to way to the Ad Age Digital Marketing conference.
