Hm… that title might’ve sounded better in my head. . . . Regardless, today we’ve got so many good stories and so little time that Pilgrim’s Picks and Linky Goodness have teamed up to keep you on top of the news!
Some places will just do anything for a little publicity: Nanaimo, BC is “Google Earth Town”. We’re talking about some serious integration here.

You might have noticed Google’s recent announcement regarding support for category exclusions within content campaigns.
This announcement basically said that you have two new ways to exclude sites from your content campaign, the “Topics” and “Page Types” tools.
The Topics exclusion tool provides you the ability to exclude your ads from pages displaying information on certain types of topics like Death & tragedy and Juvenile, gross & bizarre content.

It seems like an innocuous enough idea at first: Yahoo’s making moves as if to join the OpenSocial initiative of standardized APIs for social network developer/3rd party apps. And then we think about it: OpenSocial is Google’s baby.
Yahoo’s current official comment, of course, isn’t very informative:
Yahoo has a rich history of supporting open standards, such as OpenID and Apache Hadoop, as we believe industry collaboration is beneficial to the developer community and the Web as a whole. While we are evaluating OpenSocial as an emerging standard, we do not comment on speculation or rumors.

I’m drowning in information glut. Between email, profiles on three social networking sites, Twitter, 200+ feeds on Bloglines and my inability to consume and synthesize it all, I feel like I’m drowning. When I see people posting their own videos, podcasts, etc., I feel like I’m not doing enough just posting text and links. At the same time, my work life balance is well, non-existent. Would love to hear suggestions from other entrepreneur/readers on how to manage the info glut, freeing up time to do more and maintain some semblance of balance…Is it possible?

We are in full on planning mode for our second annual 2008 Ypulse National Mashup July 14-15 in San Francisco this summer. Fuse has signed on as our anchor sponsor for this year and next year’s event! Last year we had over 350 attendees on site and we hope to grow that number a lot this time around. In addition to the best in-person networking you will find at any “youth marketing” event as well as extremely affordable prices that include a realistic non-profit rate, you get:

We launched our new Ypulse Books coverage written by Alli a couple of months ago in response to what our readers told us they wanted to see more of on Ypulse. We want to continue this coverage and ideally launch Ypulse Books as a separate channel on the site, but we can’t do this without some sponsor/advertiser support. If you work in book publishing or for a movie or television studio that is adapting books to screen, or for a toy company with characters based on children’s books or YA fiction, please consider advertising. Ypulse readers are influential media and marketing professionals who create buzz — many also happen to be parents of tweens and teens who buy books for their kids. We also have a sizable number of librarians and youth workers who will recommend or order books for teens. We have lots of interesting sponsorship options for the channel and the Ypulse Books pre-conference session at the 2008 Mashup this year. If you want more information on how to support this effort, please e…

Last night came a somewhat exciting announcement by YouTube: the online video mecca has released a set of new open APIs along with other features that position itself as “an open, general purpose, video services platform, available for use by just about any third-party website, desktop application, or consumer device.” Website developers can now upload videos directly to YouTube, as well as allow their visitors to rate, comment, and post video responses directly from their site (no need to be redirected to YouTube.com). The expansion of its APIs also means developers can create video-players that are free of YouTube’s stylization and formatting (in essence, allowing them to create their own, personalized YouTubes).

The new Abercrombie & Fitch children’s hospital they got name it in exchange for a $10 million donation.
“It is troubling that a children’s hospital would name its emergency room after a company that routinely relies on highly sexualized marketing to target teens and preteens,” the members of the coalition wrote in a letter that was sent on Tuesday to the hospital’s office in Columbus, Ohio.
