I’m writing this from Alpine, Texas, where my dad lives. Hanging here for the next week or two. Hardcore West Texas, miles away from anywhere. Just how I like it. Blogging light for the next while. Off to NYNY after this. Rock on. …

Google Maps Marks 1-Ways in Parking Lots

Navigating the University of Minnesota can be tricky for first-timers due to the name 1-way streets and intersections. Luckily, Google Maps marks the direction of each street.

But they also go one step further by marking the 1-way directions for each lane of the U of MN’s parking lots:

Leaving Home

For those of you who have been following my personal evolution from part-time blogger or Ypulse as side passion project to full time founder of Ypulse, LLC (as of September 2006), Monday will mark another milestone for me. I have decided to rent a desk in an office in San Francisco. For any of you work-at-home readers, you know that the time comes where working in your PJs until 2 p.m. starts to feel gross. I’ve hit that wall and am craving boundaries around Ypulse, which has taken over my home life. This Monday, I will wake up early, take a shower (my husband will be so pleased) and go to my new digs at 11th and Folsom to update the site. I’m just trying it out to see if it helps this feeling of one day blurring into the next.

Telegraph: Earth’s Oceans In Trouble

oceantroubleWhile it seems there’s a report on a new eco-problem every day, we can probably guess that the world’s oceans aren’t in the best state. But nobody has ever completed a study about how good or bad the ocean’s are coping. Well, according to an international team of 19 scientists, they aren’t coping all that well.

Fast Company’s Dull Top 50 Innovative Companies 2008

Congratulations to PSFK friends/sponsors/landlords/patrons Anomaly for reaching 24 in Fast Company’s annual list of global innovative companies. Anomaly were highlighted because of their innovative approach to intellectual property.
The rest of the list is pretty lackluster and unimaginative: filled with such few obvious inclusions like Google and Apple; a more than a few old FC faves who passed their sell by date a while ago (e.g. IDEO, GE, Nike, Nokia, P&G, Disney, Samsung, HP, Timberland, IBM, Boeing, Intel, Cisco, Microsoft, Sun Microsystems); and a few emerging companies like T…

The Club: A Car Racing Inspired Shoot-em Up

the-club.jpg
“The Club” is a new video game by Sega transforming the third person shooter genre.  Instead of a novel sized storyline accompany game play, as seen in games like “Halo,” “The Club” focuses on unadulterated action - taking cues from classic arcade games and more recent car racing games where high scores are what matter most.

Teens’ Cell Phone Selves

When I’ve spoken about teens having new tools to stay connected 24/7, I often use the analogy of the three-way call or how we used to stay on the landline phone as long as we could. I think that analogy explains the desire for the technology but not how the technology is changing the way teens are interacting with each other as well as how having a phone accessible at all times creates more of a dependence - not just on being able to check for text messages, but on their parents — whom they can now call anytime, anyplace. .
