I’ve been a big proponent of Yahoo!’s YUI libraries and the way they’ve adopted and supported open source technologies. I recognize that the company is fractured and needs some direction, but what I just logged into and participated in was pretty cool, Y! Live.
Y! Live is a video chat room where multiple people can be viewed via webcam, talk via webcam and chat via normal chat region. Here’s a pic of me in the session:

Google’s machine translating technology is pretty amazing. No, I’m sure it’s not perfect, but it can open up some interesting online marketing opportunities. Adding a gadget like you see above can allow visitors from other parts of the world to surf to your site and instantly translate it to their native tongue possibly opening doors to additional sales or foreign partners. And, it’s kind of fun to see your words in other languages. You can get this bad boy at the G…

I’ve always thought it ironic that if you use a trademark in a movie or other medium, the owners would sue the pants off of you—but if you approach them in advance to sell “product placement,” they’ll pay you to put it in there.
Jason Schramm, who runs Jason Blogs and (and w…

When I was growing up, my dad set the standard for how a business person behaved. He went to work every day, did his thing and came home. He would, on occasion, bring some work (read — paper) home with him. I’m sure my dad made friends at the office but I didn’t know or hear about them.

I know I wrote that I was closing this landing page series with #10, but due to email issues and because I don’t like to louse up my generally good karma, I’ve added just one more to the series before we close it for good. Cool?
Sherice Jacob and Real Estate Client Referrals, like other real estate-related businesses, has been hard hit by the ongoing downturn in the housing market. Verified/qualified leads are the lifeblood of any business, of course. But in a down housing market edging into recession, they’re even more so. Too much housing inventory chasing too few buyers. That means even their best prospects—top performing agents—are struggling with their own cash flow and aren’t super eager to part with cash, especially when:

Late last month, rumors abounded that Yahoo was launching a “lifecasting” site, Yahoo! Live. And last night, Yahoo indeed welcomed a new arrival to the family as Yahoo Live went live.
Unfortunately, while they did launch last month in closed beta to Yahoo employees, Yahoo Live has already begun experiencing serious problems. Marshall Kirkpatrick of ReadWriteWeb reported that while l…

We expect more than 1,500 people to attend Search Engine Land’s three-day
Search Marketing Expo West
conference later this month in Silicon Valley. A monster show! There will be
sessions stuffed with search marketing knowledge and a bustling expo floor. But
it needn’t scare those looking to network. We’ve carefully coordinated a number
of events and parties during the show, plus there are a variety of ways for
people to meet others before they arrive, ranging from our just-launched
exclusive SMX Connect system for attendees to popular social sites like
Facebook. Below, more about some of the events — including "Google Groove" —
and ways to network, as well as the official conference tags and Twitter
information.

I’ll admit I used to love the Summer WarmUp series at PS1 Museum in Queens. It had a good run of interesting architecture installations compliments of the Young Architects Program. And the music was pretty cool. Then a few years ago it got in a rut. Well from an architectural standpoint. All the installations looked too much the same.

It’s funny how absurd web hosting data limits become if they’re not routinely updated to reflect ongoing cost decreases.
Here’s an example from yesterday:
Jason Kottke linked to a webpage that happens to be hosted on Yahoo’s Geocities free publishing platform. Personally, I hadn’t heard Geocities mentioned in years, but I suppose someone’s still using it. As you can see in Kottke’s comment, he was surprised to see that Geocities was still around too:
