I’ve recently returned to blogging after a more than three month absence with my post “On Blogging”. In that post, I discussed some of the problems that come along with blogging. Having explored the downside of blogging, I’m asking for some help exploring the upside.
What did you like most about this site? The blog? The podcast? Which posts? Which episodes? What kinds of subjects? What would you like me to do that I haven’t yet done?

AIXG – Aixtron (NASDAQ)
Aixtron has sold off considerably since my last update and I have not found any definitive reason for the sharp decline. However, I do have a theory about what might have happened.
Aixtron had been mentioned as a possible acquisition target of Applied Materials (AMAT). However, on June 6 Applied Materials announced it […]…

Usually we do a weekly top performer list but let’s save the trouble this week - it looks almost identical to last week - loaded with gold stocks with a few natural gas stocks thrown in. Nothing else was really working despite a relatively benign fall in the market indexes. I was relatively accurate when 2 Saturdays I wrote in the t…

The Bombay Stock Exchange’s benchmark Sensex index hit a record high of 21,206.77 points on 10 January, but followed it up with a sharp correction, losing some 21% to 16,729.94 points by 22 January in eight straight trading sessions. Since then, the fall has been unremitting. What seemed a “correction” in end-January has turned out […]…

Since I don’t want to make the blog a place of constant sour news I’m always on the look out for slivers of good news…. we’ve been talking for a long time about the weakness in discretionary spending and just hit recently on the troubles of those (normal folk) who buy normal boats for normal fun [Jun 30: Listen to the Companies, Not the Government Reports - Brunswick Corp (BC) and Smithfield Foods (SFD)]…

In all the excitement this week I skimped on some fundamental/economic stories to focus more on the market and transactions. So we have some catching up to do.I said long ago as the economy weakens the last things to go would be teenagers and their Abercrombie (ANF) $100 jeans, and video games/gadgets. Well it appears all we have left now are the video games/gadgets….

We’ve touched on these subjects in the past, but as we get many new readers I like to revisit them and add new data. Back in April [Apr 4: Congress is Rushing to Help Homeowners Out!! (Not)] I pointed out how the wonderfully cute and fuzzy “Foreclosure Prevention Act of 2008″ - which sounds like a wonderful thing for consumers - was in large part simply a program that m…

For BCE (BCE/NYSE) shareholders, the big fireworks yesterday was news the company had signed a final agreement with a group led by the

It is the first Saturday of the month, so it is time for a goals/progress update. A month like June makes you appreciate being a dividend investor. While other investors are focusing on their market losses and negative total returns, I and other dividend investors are able to look at net positive metrics such as an increase in annual dividend income. That’s not to imply that we escaped the losses (I didn’t as I will discuss next Saturday), but the day-to-day gyrations of the market is not how we measure success. Instead, our goal is steadily build a stream of dividend income over the years. To that end, progress was made in June. Now onto the numbers….
