On Wednesday, Cramer revealed his Wind Index. Which “Windex” stock was NOT one of his previous calls?
But there are four other names, most likely new to Mad Money viewers, that Cramer’s using to round out the Windex.
Ameron (AMN) deals mainly in water pipeline systems but also has a wind-tower manufacturing business that could double in size this year.

As the Baby Boomer generation plans for their retirement, it is no secret that there will be an increasing demand for income producing securities. While I prefer individual dividend growth stocks, the ETF universe is offering some attractive alternatives that may make retirement planning a little less time-intensive.
With number of income producing investment products increasing, one should notice the g…

Anthony Bolton, the UK’s most famous money manager with an excellent long term track record, made news over the past day or so with this:Bolton said: ‘After five years of strong commodity markets, a
contrarian such as myself would start to get worried. I would switch
out of commodities today and move into financial stocks.’ He
warned that some financial stocks looked ‘opaque’ individually but that
if the recycled commodities money was spread across the financials
sector, investors ’should do well’….

For people who are interested in trading currencies, currency binary is one thing that they should be familiar with. This is a relatively new trading strategy which involves betting on whether the exchange rate will fall or rise.
Investopedia explains:
“For example, assume that the exchange rate for the EUR/USD is currently 1.25; an investor who buys a currency binary at a strike exchange rate of 1.30 is betting that the exchange rate will be 1.30 or greater on the expiration date. If this occurs, the investor will receive a set payoff amount, no matter how far above 1.30 the exchange rate settles. If the exchange rate at expiration is less than 1.30, the long investor receives nothing.”…

New investors would surely be perplexed with what the Big Mac PPP is all about. Basically it is just a study to measure how overvalued or undervalued a certain currency is. According to Investopedia, Big Mac PPP is “a survey done by The Economist that determines what a country’s exchange rate would have to be for a Big Mac in that country to cost the same as it does in the United States. Purchase power parity (PPP) is the theory that currencies adjust according to changes in their purchasing power. With the Big Mac PPP, purchasing power is reflected by the price of a McDonald’s Big Mac in a particular country.”…

Rational pricing is a theory which serious investors should be familiar with. According to Investopedia, this theory states that “the market prices of assets will represent the arbitrage-free pricing level for those assets. This is based on the assumption that any deviation from arbitrage-free price levels for an asset will result in arbitrageurs immediately trading away the profit opportunity on the asset until it trades at an arbitrage-free price.”…

My ears perked up a few weeks ago when I was reading that costs for trucking companies have risen to the point that it is CHEAPER for them to put their trucks ON RAILROAD cars for cross country treks (instead of actually driving the trucks). That’s sort of an amazing scenario when you stop and think about it.Of course we love all sort of shortages here (as investors) because shortages mean profit opportunity. (we don’t like shortages so much as consumers though because shortages mean higher prices) But shortages and crisis do create all sort of reactions - such as the increase in the A…

I have been reading with great interest recent articles on the current housing market. The recent Case-Shiller report shows average home prices have fallen 14% over the last year and there is currently an 11 month “inventory” of 4.55 million homes. This report has widespread news reporting, but there are other reports out there that paint a slightly different picture. I would like to reference some of these reports with a little analysis of my own.

Ok I’ve tried to let my winners run as much as possible (always harder to sell than to buy in my opinion) but I can hear them cleaning up the spot behind the woodshed…tiding it up… cleaning up the limbs they took off from the solar group today…. our friend to the right has been waiting impatiently for 2.5 months to have his time with the commodities……

Nothing special here outside of a technical buy; this has been a very small position for a while, awaiting a pullback. The stock is down 8% out of the blue - could mean there is some news that the big boys have that I don’t, or it could just be some random hedge fund blowing up and liquidating. We just never know.I’m going to begin a rebuild here as the stock drops to $69s, some support down there in the $67s; if it breaks below that, that probably points to some bad news that “those in the know” have, and are trading off of (not that this ever happens in our very transparent and fair stock market). But since I only have a placeholder type of position (0.1% or less stake), I’ll use this opportunity to begin expansion in N…

Let me preface this post by saying, I don’t really care too much about the quarterly earning reports for some of the companies I hold, Mechel (MTL) is much like Petrobras (PBR) and Vale (RIO) - while I realize the lemmings in the market will overreact one way or the other as if the world is ending or mermaids and unicorns have arrived based on a few cents here or there every 90 days, I am indifferent. These are very long term plays, and my positioning in them has more to do with technical patterns at any moment; rather than any earnings hit or miss or any 90 day period. To that point, I didn’t even realize M…

For the past few months I’ve held shares of Jaclyn Inc. in the Special Situations Real Money Portfolio. Members of Fat Pitch Financials Contributor’s Corner have been tracking my research on this company since it first announced its desire to go private back in December of 2007.
Jaclyn proposed to go private by conducting a reverse split where 250 shares would become one share. This was then to be immediately followed by a forward split where each share would again become 250 shares. Holders of less than 250 shares before the split were to receive $10.21 in cash per share. The goal of this transaction was to reduce the total number of shareholders of record to less than 300, a requirement for taking a public company private. Since this was a classic going private transaction, I think it makes for good learning example. It’s been a while since I’ve detailed my experience with one of these going private transactions, so for many of my newer readers this will be informative.

Joy Global (JOYG) along with Bucyrus (BUCY) are the 2 main public companies in the US for pure plays on “mining equipment”. While I expect demand to be strong, which will help both these companies revenues, I have turned cautious on these names due to rising input costs - essentially the same thesis I have for the agriculture equipment makers i.e. Deere (DE) [M…

With the oil price at an all time high, we hear more and more talk about ‘Peak Oil’ but what does this really mean? This theory refers to when the maximum rate of global petrol production is reached, after which the rate of production enters its terminal decline. If the global consumption is not tackled before this peak, there will undoubtedly be an energy crisis due to the drop of supply and rise of demand.
Here is a CNBC in depth interview on the subject:

There once were twin boys that were very different. One had a positive outlook on life while the other was negative about anything he encountered. At age 5 the parents took the boys to see a psychologist to try and understand how twins could be so different. After several sessions the psychologist tried to “cure” both boys. He placed the negative boy in a well-lit room full of candy, pastries, toys and anything else a 5 year old boy could ever want. The positive boy was placed in a dark room full of rancid horse manure….

In “The Steady Rise of Oil” (April 18) what transportation metaphor did Sri Jegarajah use?
Some in the market expect a softer gasoline demand during this period as families ‘garage the station wagon‘ and cancel the driving vacation to the Grand Canyon as pump prices near $4.00 a gallon.

Tender Mercies is the 1983 film staring Robert Duvall, which tells the story of a recovering alcoholic country singer whose life and career gets turned around. I’m no singer or boozer. But my experience with ArmorGroup International PLC included a stock price roller coaster ride equivalent of the wildest binge. And mercifully, it had a happy ending with G4S PLC making a tender offer for my shares. Here’s how this script played out from the beginning….
