The economy isn’t so hot. The credit crisis has caused mass layoffs across Wall Street and related industries. Mortgage defaults are skyrocketing, causing panic in many communities across the U.S. The geopolitical environment hasn’t been this lousy in a generation. All pretty depressing stuff. But I see a silver lining in all this chaos: t…

Jackson Aaron Warbritton: Welcome to the world! Our congratulations to Renae and Jason on their new son, who has been described as beautiful and adorable. The indications are that he will be tall, athletic, and attractive, like his parents.
Meanwhile, we are a bit short-handed, in spite of some valuable part-time helpers.
Thursday is the normal time for our TCA-ETF update. We shall try to catch up on this when possible.

“We are big believers in wind power,” Jim Cramer told fans of his “Mad Money” TV show Thursday. Recently, Cramer discovered that Trinity Industries (TRN), a rail car maker, is the largest manufacturer of wind towers. He compared the company to Apple Computer (AAPL) back in 2002, when investors ignored the hidden value of the computer maker’s iPod. Trinity has a growing wind power business with a $750 million backlog that makes up 6% of the company’s revenues. Cramer thinks the backlog can grow to $900 million in five years and revenues from wind power can increase to 10% by next year. The stock trades at eight times earnings and is down 41% from recent highs. He said t…

Cramer was out with bullish comments on Otter Tail (OTTR) calling the stock his favorite wind-power company. Otter Tail controls a company called DMI Industries, a fast growing wind-tower maker. Cramer thinks OTTR needs to spin off DMI to unlock value - analysts are predicting DMI will see 63% earnings growth in 2008. He said DMI has a $289 million backlog and controls 18% of the market share. DMI does business in some of the best wind markets like Canada and in the U.S., North and South Dakota, Montana and Minnesota. Cramer cautioned investors to be careful if they buy shares of OTTR, because the stock trades thinly. He recommended using limit orders and don’t pay over $37.

Cramer welcomed Dan DiMicco CEO, chairman and president of Nucor (NUE) to the “Mad Money” TV show to discuss his company’s future. DiMicco said that the supply and demand situation for the steel industry couldn’t be more perfect. He explained the combination of the weak dollar, fewer Chinese exports and increased global supply is helping the steel sector stay in a major bull market. DiMicco said Nucor has pricing power and that showed when the firm reported record first-quarter earnings. “Nucor’s one of the great growth companies in America,” Cramer said. “It’s just too cheap.”

Cramer put himself in this week’s “Sell Block” for missing out on the run in Covanta (CVA). He said he deserved to be punished for missing the big move in the stock. Covanta is the country’s largest waste-to-energy company and controls 50% of the market share. The company also operates coal plants in China and the Philippines, liquid fuel in India and natural gas in Bangladesh. Covanta has a new joint venture in China to develop more waste-to-energy plants. Cramer said he didn’t recommended Covanta because Sam Zell -who he wasn’t a fan of - brought the company out of bankruptcy in 2003. Cramer said take the 3.3% decline today to buy the stock.

Return to Glory? Both Starbucks (SBUX) and Dell (DELL) continue to struggle even after the return of their original founders. What is the trade? Macke said Starbucks needs to gut the place and take things in slow steps as it attempts its turnaround. Najarian is worried about competition from Burger King (BKC) and McDonald’s (MCD) as both firms get into the gourmet coffee market. Emerging Markets - ChinaStocks in China surged 9.3% the largest one-day move in over seven years after the government cut the tax stamp on stock transactions, in an effort to boast falling share prices. Tim Seymour thinks the move was a weak attempt by Chinese officials to save the falling market. He feels many Chinese stocks have much more room to fall based on earnings expectations. Seymour said he is still bullish and would be a buyer of China Mobile (CHL) or Baidu.com (BIDU). He said he would sell PetroChina (PTR) because the company doesn’t make money from the refinery business with oil prices at such higher levels. Finally, Seymour explained that the infrastructure play in China is still alive.P…
