KISS KISS

Back in the 1990s the SEC proposed some simplification of mutual fund prospectus language. Used to wielding thick prospectus stacks as a defense to legal liability (a tried and true tradition in the United States, they are the “warning labels” for financial products, after all) funds resisted the move. Today, it is afoot again.

The SEC is proposing a mutual fund “plain English” “Summary Prospectus.” Apparently, it might be as short as four pages.

Visa (V) Breakout From Bullish Triangle

I've mentioned in the new IPO Community forum recently (which you can sign up for here if you haven't), that the best way to trade new IPO's is to wait.  You give the stock at least 2 weeks to play out and let the dust settle on the volatility.  It often doesn't take long […]

Sugar, Inc.: The Twenty-Five Most Valuable Blogs

After 24/7 Wall St. published the Twenty-Five Most Valuable Blogs we decided to look at some niche content sites which compete with blogs and should have similar valuation data. Sugar, Inc runs seventeen websites. The content at the sites is blog-like but the writing appears more highly controlled and edited than it would be at a blog. The destinations, which include PopSugar, FabSugar, and GeekSugar, are aimed at female teenagers and young women. The company was started by a husband and wife. Sequoia Capital has put money into the firm. According to The San Francisco Business Times, Sugar bought in…

IMF: Central Bankers Should Keep Eye on Home Prices

The International Monetary Fund recommended in a housing study released today that central banks in countries with more developed mortgage markets such as the U.S. should take home prices into account when crafting monetary policy. However, monetary policy shouldn’t directly target housing prices, it said.

Arch Coal CEO King of Coal Interview

The recommendation on December 6 that we should sell coal stocks in favor of energy alternatives. Steven Leer the chairman and CEO of Arch Coal (ACI) joined the show. Cramer and Leer agreed with Cramer about ethanol making advancements in recent years and it is not the right fuel for the country. More than 50% of U.S. energy comes from coal and the demand will rise as the coal technology advances. Having a Democrat in the White House does not worry Leer with coal being the most economic choice of energy for this country. Cramer called Leer a great spokesman for the industry and ACI is the way to play energy for the coming year.

After Disappointing Report, Is Lawson Still Potential Merger Bait? (LWSN)

Lawson Software (NASDAQ: LWSN) may be in a strange spot now as the enterprise software and consultant firm issued earnings. The company posted earnings of $0.08 EPS on a non-GAAP basis on an 11.3% rise in revenues to $212.9 million, while First Call showed consensus as $0.08 EPS and $217.2 million. Lawson issued guidance for next quarter at $0.08 to $0.11 EPS on revenues of $225 to $230 million. This is still sequential growth, but this lurks under the estimates of $0.12 EPS and $230.9 million from First Call. As far as charges, Lawson reported an additional permanent impairment charge…

Am I Diversified and Mad Mail

AM I Diversified?Chattem (CHTT), Altria (MO), Phillip Morris (PM), Millicom (MICC) and Vale (RIO). All of these stocks were liked by Cramer but he advised against having both a domestic and international tobacco play in one portfolio. MO should be sold for another stock. Rite Aid (RAD), Alcatel Lucent (AL), Kellogg (K), Heinz (HNZ) and Verizon (VZ). HNZ and K were called two of a kind and AL should be gotten rid of. A financial stock and a defense contractor should be added. BHP Billiton (BHP), Halliburton (HAL), Verizon (VZ), Delta Petroleum (DPTR) and Korean Electric Power (KEP). This portfolio was blessed….

Jim Cramer’s Stop Trading

Cramer told us to buy gold today on Stop Trading. Other ideas we were offered were Monsanto (MON) cooling and a little to be taken off of Citigroup (C). Washington Mutual (WM) should also be sold as short sellers raid on the sector. A bearish take was given to us on CEO Patricia Russo of Alcatel-Lucent (ALU). Then a joint venture between Sony (SNE) and Ericsson (ERIC) was mentioned as “challenged.” The one stock Cramer would buy if a gun was put to his head is Nokia (NOK). Last tonight Hillary Clinton will appear on “Mad Money.”
