Jim Cramer’s Stop Trading

14 February, 2008 Economy | Comments (0) @ 23:45

Natural gas is the place to be. Best of breed is XTO Energy (XTO) against competitors like Apache (APA) and Anadarko (APC). The upcoming offering will be a winner. Liz Claiborne (LIZ) had a difficult day as well with the thought that they should close down all properties other than Juicy Couture and Kate Spade.

Cramer’s Big Pipe Hit (WG)

14 February, 2008 Economy | Comments (0) @ 23:39

On tonight’s MAD MONEY on CNBC, Jim Cramer came out discussing oil and gas infrastructure, and said that a relatively small player name Willbros Group, Inc. (NYSE: WG) is a winner. This one also only has a $1.2 Billion market cap. Cramer noted this is at the heart of the return of the natural gas…

One person who has been following this through a number of credit meltdowns is Jack Malvey, c…

YouTube Dominance Continues…The Great DEFLATOR!

Asset inflation is rampant. I have few opinions but have been adamant about how we are being inflated to death. I have blogged about WINflation and I still believe it, but as a total pie argument, inflation is a killer and chips away at us all in some way . Fred had a good post on the dangers of inflation in the venture and private equity world ….

Blogonomics: The Techdirt Model for Monetizing Content

14 February, 2008 Economy | Comments (0) @ 22:01

I managed to grab a few minutes at the Money:Tech conference to talk to Mike Masnick about his company, Techdirt, and specifically the Techdirt Insight Community. What he said intrigued and excited me: it seemed like a fantastic way for bloggers to be able to monetize their ideas and insights. At first.
I, like many bloggers, love to receive and to answer very specific questions from my readers. (T…

Things Get Ugly At GMAC

14 February, 2008 Economy | Comments (0) @ 21:43

After a big fourth quarter loss, private equity player Cerberus may regret buying a controlling interest in GMAC. The head of Cerberus said in a note to clients picked up by Reuters “… if the credit markets continue to decline and we find ourselves in a prolonged environment of capital market shutdown, GMAC could run into substantial difficulty.” The home lending and auto financing parts of GMAC are likely to face a vicious downturn as the year wears on. What is not clear is what Cerberus will do if its situation is dire. Does it default on its debt? Go…

Gary Coleman’s Marriage And What It Means For You

Mainstreet.com—the Parade Magazine of money sites—responded to yesterday’s question re: what’s the business angle of Arnold, 4’8 settling down and finally losing his virginity to Shannon Price, 5’7, who sees him as 10’0, except when he’s throwing shit at her? Turns out there is none, though M-Street goes on for five unimaginable paragraphs about the issues that can arise when there are disparities in pay between a husband and a wife, the importance of joint checking, some stuff about paying utilities and who am I kidding I couldn’t even make it half way down the page, it was that bad. We’re hearing that a Houston-based an energy fund which took a short position in March 2009 gas futures and long April 2009 gas futures is getting crush. The spread on that trade has been widening all week. Energy traders are abuzz with talk of one fund getting crushed, ironically by taking the exactly opposite of one of Brian Hunter’s infamous trades. He was long March and short April when he dragged Amaranth down.
