I continued my horrid slide to new lows in November, but I found a glimmer of hope over to end the month with a massive rebound. My account briefly fell below the balance I had in my account at the beginning of 2007. That meant that all of the monthly deposits I sent in to TD Ameritrade for 18 months ending in July of this year were all gone along with the $18k I have in capital gains last year. To say I was down about it and flat out ashamed that I let it happen would be an understatement. I was warned by a few readers to cut my losses and try again later. I didn’t listen. Instead I let my account fall from around $59k at the end of l…

Russia’s strong veneer was thrown off as the government conceded to a crisis that is spreading to the economy and their exchange traded fund (ETF).

Anyone who has yet to experiment with Wordle is missing out. First brought to my attention by Barry Ritholtz at The Big Picture, Wordle is a site that lets users turn text into a word cloud, with a wide array of creative options. Wordle can be used purely for fun, for analysis, or for any number of purposes. It might also have some value as an archival tool too. …

Sometimes, when the bad news keeps on coming, exchange traded fund (ETF) investors just need a bit of perspective.
In October, hardly a day went by when media headlines didn’t shout about another down day on Wall Street, says Intelligent Speculator. But was it really so bad? A little bit of……

The economy of South Africa has slowed to an alarming rate, enough to caution the market and exchange traded funds (ETFs).

With my academic background as an Industrial Engineer, it is probably not surprising that I have a strong preference for using a heavy dose of quantitative analysis in my stock selection process. In a previous post, the detailed ‘Analysis Sheet’ used for evaluating a potential covered calls position was presented (link). In response to readers who have indicated that using the ‘Analysis Sheet’ is just too cumbersome for them, the Covered Calls Advisor has now developed a more user-friendly stock selection analysis sheet which I am hopeful is more practical for your use — let’s call it ‘Buy Alerts’. This spreadsheet includes those financial ratios and metrics that this advisor has found to be most relevant as an aid in identifying good stocks to purchase. These criteria are categorized as follows:…
