Yesterday, the market posted its first decent rally in many weeks. Wells Fargo, Northern Trust and Charles Schwab posted good numbers and that helped to rally an oversold financial sector. Oil also retreated and that helped to take the sting out of a very high CPI number. Comments from Ben Bernanke reassured the market that financial stability, not inflation, was the Fed’s priority. The market was able to hold its gains and a rally into the bell. As I mentioned yesterday, serious technical damage has occurred and the market needs to follow through by closing above SPY 126 for me to …

Anybody remember the VIX? Getting slammed like a Naked Short. Another point or so down gets it 10% below it’s 10 Day SMA. How about Expiration, haven’t mentioned that much. You don’t want to play for pins in a volatile and high volume tape, so I’d be a bit careful to say the least….

Mexico’s peso is at a five-year high, and it could be just the thing to make the currency’s exchange traded fund (ETF) shout, “Ole!” The CurrencyShares Mexican Peso Trust (FXM) closed yesterday at an all-time high. It’s up 6.6% year-to-date.

It has been a few months since I have discussed the procedure for how I treat any given trading strategy, today I am going to highlight how I trade flag patterns.A flag pattern is a chart pattern that illustrates the look of a flag. A flag can be bullish or bearish, depending on the context of the underlying trend and the shape that follows. Naturally, bear flags occur in bear trends and bull flags occur in bull trends. Both are continuation patterns which suggest that once confirmed, prices will continue in the direction of the underlying trend. Below is a chart to give you both examples……

I probably went a little overboard last night, but I am cool with that. I was frustrated that I wasn’t able to act and participate on a day like yesterday. However, maybe that wasn’t such a bad thing. It is expiration week, and we are in the heat of earnings season. I warned in my video this weekend that this week was going to be extraordinary volatile, and that is exactly what we’ve seen. There are a handful of things I noticed yesterday that looked like it might be a multi-day event….
